Fellow Conservatives:

During this week’s meeting we will be discussing the latest round of Arizona budget cuts.As usual, we will be meeting on Thursday, November 19th at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105.  Following the meeting we will be fliering for the Ron Paul event and eating dinner together at a group at a restaurant TBD.

Here are some other events coming up this week:

  • Gathering Signatures for Rep. Jeff Flake This Saturday, November 21 we will be meeting in Mesa to help Rep. Jeff Flake (CD 6) gather signatures to get on the ballet for his 2010 re-election campaign.
  • AZFCR State Board Meeting On Sunday, November 22, the Arizona Federation of College Republicans will be having its monthly board meeting at ASU West in Glendale from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.  You can RSVP to the event here:  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=79508579737

November 5th Meeting

First I would like to congratulate the newly elected Republican Governors Bob McDonnell in Virginia and Chris Christie in New Jersey!

During tomorrow’s meeting we will be discussing yesterday’s election results and how it reflects on the voter’s opinion on the current political climate in Washington.  Corbin Smith will then be explaining the 4th and 5th Amendments.  As usual, we will be meeting on Thursday, November 5th at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105.  Following the meeting we will be fliering for the Ron Paul event and eat dinner at Slices off of Mill Avenue and 6th Street.

Fellow College Republicans:

We will be discussing whether or not the government can Constitutionally force it’s citizens to buy a particular service or product, such as health care, light bulbs, cars, etc, at today’s general meeting.
Corbin Smith will then be explaining the 3rd Amendment and we will hear from a woman running for Tempe City Council.
As usual, we will be meeting today, Thursday, October 28 at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105.  Following the meeting we will be eating at the Chuckbox on University Dr and Forrest Ave.

10/22 Meeting

Fellow College Republicans:

At this week’s meeting we will be honored to have Nick Dranias from the Goldwater Institute speak on the current Clean Elections lawsuit. Corbin Smith will then detail the 2nd Amendment and we will briefly discuss Sarah Palin low numbers in recent national polls. As usual, we will be meeting Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105. Following the meeting we will be fliering campus parking lots with Ron Paul event information and then eating in the MU.

Here are a few important upcoming events:

* Fliering for the Ron Paul event

We need help spreading the word about Ron Paul’s visit to campus in December. If you would like to help, we will be fliering today, Wednesday, October 21 at 6:30 pm and tomorrow after the meeting. Text or email me for more information or if you would like fliers to pass out on your own time.

* Students for Liberty Conference

The ASU Students For Liberty will be hosting the West Coast Students For Liberty Conference uniting liberty-minded students and activists to push forward an agenda of real change in our society- liberty. The conference will take place this Saturday, October 24 from 9:30am – 8:00pm on campus. For more information visit the Facebook event page and be sure to register here.

Fellow College Republicans:

At this week’s meeting we announcing the CR Activism Contest. Please come to the meeting to find out how you can get involved with campaigns, initiatives and politics in general. During the meeting we will be discussing Obama’s Circus at the G20 and United Nations General Assembly. As usual, we will be meeting Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105. After the meeting we will putting up posters around campus and then eating at Chipotle off of Mill Ave and 11th St.

* YAF West Coast Leadership Conference.

Applications to go to the 2009 West Coast Leadership Conference hosted by Young America’s Foundation are now available. At the conference you will learn about conservative ideas and activism, interact with your conservative heroes, receive valuable resource materials, improve your debate skills, get an exclusive visit to the Reagan Ranch and become a young conservative leader. * Zoo Walk 2009.

This year the CRs will be participating in the 2009 Zoo Walk to help the Autism Research Institute. The walk will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the Phoenix Zoo. For more information visit the Zoo Walk website and click “Teams” to join the ASU College Republican’s team.

* Tucson TEA Party and State Board Meeting.

Next Saturday, October 10 TucsonTeaParty.org will be hosting Tucson’s Last Stand featuring Judge Andrew Napolitano. The event will be at Tucson Electric Park from 10am – 1pm. Following the TEA Party, the Arizona Federation of College Republicans will be holding their monthly meeting in Tucson at The University of Arizona. Come meet and socialize with CRs across the state! Former NFL and Sun Devils quarterback (but most importantly a solid conservative) Andrew Walter will be leading this week’s discussion on current topics concerning the Tempe area, Arizona and the US as a whole. As usual, we will be meeting Thursday, September 24 at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105. After the meeting we will be eating at Native New Yorker which is located on the southeast corner of Broadway and Dorsey.

At this week’s meeting we will be honored to have local KFYI 550 AM radio host Mike Broomhead speaking at our meeting. Following his talk, we will hear from the 9 nominees running for positions on the executive board. If you would like to vote on these postions, please bring your dues and pay them to Treasurer Corbin Smith at the start of the meeting ($5/semester or $10/year). As usual, we will be meeting Thursday, September 17 at 5:00 pm in Social Sciences (SS) 105. After the meeting we will be eating at Ted’s Hot Dogs which is located on the southwest corner of Broadway and McClintock.

* Apparently Everyone Hates Kanye West. During an off-the-air segment of an interview with CNBC this week, Obama called Kanye West a “jackass”. [video here] This is the second time the President has interjected himself into matters that are not exactly within the realm of Presidental responsiblity (the first being the Cambridge incident). Should we have time at the meeting, we will discuss whether or not the President of the United States should be taking a position on these kinds of issues.

Never Forget 9/11 Event

2009 September 13

Photographs featuring ASU CR efforts to remember the tragic events of September 11th, 2001. Around 15 fellow College CRs and volunteers gathered at 5:00am to set up all 2,740 flags representing the innocent lives lost on that day. We also raised about $100 for the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund. Thanks to all who volunteered on Friday and to all those who donated to this worthy cause!
